Assaying in the gold game
November 25th, 2009 by yichenoc
Dear Readers,
Today we assayed for the second time and I didn’t really assay. Me and Josh have got 4 people as allies and maybe even more would come. Today our allies assayed 70oz. in total and the assay price WAS A WHOPPING £5.10.0d!* We got £385 from that.
We have, in total, £600+ but are aiming to beat Sean and Anthony who mysteriously shot from about £50 to £770. They assayed 100oz. in which equalled £550. That’s wierd.
We panned afterwards and I got 2oz. while Josh couldn’t pan today because of the word card he got on Monday. Also, somebody else was NAKED! She lost the tent and clothes.

Water on the moon
November 14th, 2009 by yichenoc
Dear Readers
There has been an official discovery that there was water on the moon.
NASA has recently launched a shuttle to crash onto the moon’s surface at around 10000 km/h and the force of the crash caused water to splash on the moon. Check out google – the official discovery has been listed there.

The Trip to Canberra
November 10th, 2009 by yichenoc
On the 19th of October Year 5 departed Caringbah North on 7:00am and headed to Canberra. On the way we stopped at Goulburn for morning tea and passed a wind farm. When we reached Canberra we took a tour of the Embassies. Then we stopped at Old Parliament House, where we did Electoral Education. After that, we had lunch which was bourght from home. We also took a mini-vote on fruit. Banana and Peach tied. Well, I voted for banana. The other candidates were Apple and Orange. Now we reached the motel for the first time, we were sorted into rooms and stayed there until 5:15pm and had dinner. The dinner was SO delicious, it was chicken schnitzel! Now we returned to our rooms and watched “Race to Witch Mountain” in the recreation area. It was tiring to me as I wanted to go to sleep. After the movie we returned to our rooms and went to sleep at around 9:30pm.
The next day I woke up at 6:15am and dressed up into school uniforms. We had breakfast and departed to go to New Parliament House. We visited the House of Representives (Green House) and the Senate (Red House). We also made up a bill which was to be passed in parliament. It was passed in the House of Reps but not in the Senate. I learnt few things: There were 150 electorates in Australia and the largest is Kalgoorie. There are 12 reps in each state and 2 in each territory in the Senate which equalled 76 reps in the Senate. After that we were met by Scott Morrison (Cook) and asked him questions. We were given an Australian Flag and had lunch. Now we were on our way to the Australian War Memorial. There was a tomb of an unknown soldier and a long, long list of people who fought and died in World War I. We also went in exhibitions of Victoria Cross Winners, World War II, etc. Then we went to the Australian Museum. It was very interesting. There was Circa, the futuristic ships, and more. We now were on our way back to the Motel and stayed in our rooms until 5:15pm to have dinner. This time it was fish and chips and we stayed in our rooms until 6:45pm after dinner. Now it was time to visit the Telstra Tower. The Telstra Tower is a tower on top of a hill which looks over Canberra. Unfortunately I forgot to bring my camera to take photos.
There were three viewing levels: One indoor and two outdoor. It was a glorious sight looking at a lit up Canberra. We headed back to the Motel and went to sleep at around 9:15pm.
At the third and final day, I woke up at 5:55am and got ready to pack my stuff. I packed my luggage into the bus at 6:45am and put my camera into my bag. We then had breakfast and returned to our rooms for the very last time. I took my bag with me, got on the bus and headed to the AIS (Australian Institute of Sport) for a 8:30am start. There was an incident when a couple of rooms next to mine broke the microwave. We nearly got late because of that. We got a tour of it and played an activity called Sportex. It was so fun. Last but not least was Questacon. It was probably the best. We get to go on science activities and we bought stuff at the shop. We had lunch and headed back to Caringbah North. We stopped at McDonalds and bought a drink for afternoon tea. We arrived at Caringbah North at 5:30pm.
I would acknowledge Hunts Coaches and Sundown Motel (and also the teachers of course!!!) for making this trip a great one.

Gold Game
November 10th, 2009 by yichenoc
Dear Readers
Today we continued on the gold game and panned for gold. I didn’t get much from it as I got only 2oz.. My partner got half as mine but the big news today is that there is reported sightings that a man is running naked!
It would have been SO sad of him!
Besides that a person lost 21oz. of gold! SO UNLUCKY!
Today was another license hunt. A person was fined £4 for not showing a license. Tomorrow we are planning to assay. That means that we exchange gold for money. I am SO excited.
Until tommorow,
Yichen

Tic and Tac
November 9th, 2009 by yichenoc
Dear Readers
Today we made up our yearbook page of the subject International Year of Astronomy. It was all about Tic and Tac. It was a “fortunately unfortunately” story (you won’t get it except you’re in my class). By the way, I’ll tell you what it is. It’s a story going “fortunately… unfortunately… fortunately… unfortunately… ” and so on. Here is a run through of this story.
Tic and Tac were in a box in a store in a galaxy far far away playing their favourite game of bushrangers but then a star halfway across the galaxy exploding. The rocks of the star (I couldn’t really explain it)
were made out of gold. But there were pirates chasing it. Tic grabbed one and stuffed it inside a Treasure Island novel. But the pirates had flying pigs that can smell gold (it’s pretty random, right?)
. Fortunately 1000 paper cranes fell out of the sky and rescued them. But Tic left his favourite garden gnome named Collie. A hatchet belonging to them scooped him up and rescued Collie and went to see his friend Grime as he doesn’t know where they were going because they slept through Mrs MuM’s geography lessons (Her name is actually MuM, not Mum). But Grime lives in the MIDDLE OF ANTARCTICA! They were helped by blue dolphins which replaced the cranes but they have tracking devices made by the pirates and they jammed it with a curse. Now the curse summoned 5000 cats! The cats froze because of the Antarctic weather and sank the pirate’s ship! Then a “cat-a-batic” wind blew Tic and Tac into a banner. They managed to make it onto Antarctica and fell inside a box but they were put in front of the Antarctica government (there is no government in Antarctica). They finally agreed to send Tic, Tac and Grime into space. It appears to be the end of the story but it is not. Collie reprogrammed the rocket to blast into the emu constellation. They were blasted into space by the government’s new rocket but was heading for a planet called Treasure Planet but fell into a wormhole and landed into Caringbah North Public School. There was a grand celebration on the International Year of Astronomy but they mixed up their Treasure Island novel with another. Somebody in 5J had the novel but they fell into a trolley full of mints owned by Impy the waiter. Dreadpirate (you’ll won’t know who she is if you’re not in my class) picked Tic and Tac up but…where is the gold?…
…To Be Continued in 2010…
…MMMMMMMmmm, this has really been another nice Yoghurt Production!
This story talks about the subjects we studied for the year.
Readers, do you know where we have been up to for the year. You could make your suggestions via reply. People from my class shouldn’t answer it because I want to give them a challenge.
Good Luck!
Yichen
P.S. We didn’t do the Gold Game but I think that there will be Gold Game tomorrow.

New Assignment
November 8th, 2009 by yichenoc
Dear Readers,
There’s now another piece of assignment work to do. The inland explorers assignment started on Thursday after we finished our bushranger assignment. Luckily I got an easier one (John McDouall Stuart) and it was an interview and presented in powerpoint presentation. I’m not sure when’s it due but I’ll know soon.
